Woodpecker Realm is an impasto style original oil painting of an English summer landscape with a green woodpecker over a meadow. It is 36x24x1.5inches. This painting was made ‘wet into wet’ method with plenty of thick oil paint. The place was East Chiltington in East Sussex at the beginning of September after a long hot summer. I came across the woodpecker whilst thrashing across this meadow towards the South Downs in the distance. I liked the way his colours harmonized with the colours of the last summer flowers and the dry grasses and brambles. This is partly why I painted the woodpecker to look as if he is merging from or into the landscape itself. Painted on deep edge canvas, white edges, ready to hang and comes with certificate of authenticity.
